Changes

Well, well, well… Lookie here. A post from the so called “Nice” photo mag. Yeah, a lot of things have changed since my last post. Lots and lots of hard work that have added up to some things I can tell you about and somethings I can tell you about, but not yet.

The biggest change was that I have moved my family and businesses from Los Angeles to Bend, Oregon. It’s a big, big change. I’ve been trying to get out of LA for a long time. My wife and I took many trips to many places trying to find the right landing spot. A couple months ago we found it. We returned from our visit and immediately put our house up for sale and did all the work involved with selling it. My wife was the star, there. It sold the first day. And then came the packing. Do you have any idea how long it takes to wrap and back just my photography bag collection? Long.

I also took a couple months off from Nice to write my latest feature film script. It was a very painful and personal script to write, but I’m pleased with how it has turned out. Some exciting things are happening with it that I will share once they are official.

Huge news with my wife and my company Trade Secret Cards. You remember, the company that stunned the world with our brain shattering how-to sets from Strobist and Chase Jarvis. How huge? I’ll tell you once it’s official. :)

I started another company to produce and market a new invention of mine that I imagine most of my readers will want several of for their gear bag. It is sitting at the patent office right now and there’s a bit of a bidding war going on with a couple huge manufacturers. What is it? I’ll tell you once it’s official.

Most importantly I’ve made a conscious decision to slow my life down. To live in the moment. Or at least to try. My son is about to turn two years old and I want to enjoy as much time with him as I can before he grows up. And my wife’s not getting any younger either! (Just kidding, Sweets.)

So what does this mean for Nice? Nice is not dead. But I’m not going to let it hold my head under water and flush the toilet anymore either. Some weeks I may post several articles, some weeks none. I do have several really cool ideas and some very useful article / video series ideas that I hope to get to in the near future. I hope you will all stay tuned.

By the way, this photo was taken with my cell phone from my new home in Bend. It’s my wife and son eating peaches for breakfast on our back porch. It explains the change I was searching for by leaving LA better than any words could. Ahh, the power of photography.

Nice!

  1. Zeke: Welcome to the Pacific Northwest! Let me know when you might be headed over to the Portland area. It would be NICE to catch up.

  2. “And my wife’s not getting any younger either! (Just kidding, Sweets.)” – you are so getting into trouble for this one.

  3. Changes is right, man! You can’t make much of a bigger change in locale. I’ve been to Bend and I totally agree with your choice of new places to live. The view from your new home in the photo is simply idyllic!

    Good on you.
