Favorites You May Have Missed

It was just about six months ago that the woman who was my life-long friend, mentor, and business partner in the ice sculpture museum was kidnapped by molemen. I’d have given my right hand to get her back (I’m left handed). But no, the molemen did not want my right hand. They sniffed it, but as I said, they passed. No, they wanted what all molemen want, MORE PHOTO BLOGS.

“No! Not that!” I cried. “Anything but that!”

But it was that. Through the blurry prism of a single tear I saw my friend’s lips mouth the last words she would utter above ground, “Don’t do it. Just let me die…” They dragged her into their muddy tunnel and she was gone forever.

So, despite my better judgment and my she-hero’s pleading, I started Nice Photo Mag in hopes they would someday return her to me. I thought, “I know, I’ll make the blog mostly about creativity, the “why” of photography rather than the technical how to. No one will read it. I’ll have paid the filthy molemen’s ransom request without hurting anyone.

Sadly, sometimes the best laid plans… well. Turns out people do read Nice Photo Mag. It’s up to just over 20,000 unique views a month. Despite my sarcastic sense of humor (me mum is a Brit after all) and liberal political stance (go Obama!), it’s still growing rapidly - just hit that big orange button on the side to sign up for the RSS feed to make it even worse. I dare you.

I guess that leaves me with only two things left to say in this post.

#1 - Molemen: How much longer must I keep up this horrid blog before you return my friend to the Earth’s surface, preferably unharmed and wearing sunglasses to avoid the sting of sunlight after six months of darkness?

#2 - Readers: Here are a few articles from the archives of Nice Photo Mag, favorites of mine you may have missed. Oh, and thanks for tuning in!

Keep It Stupid, Stupid

Contrast - The Blood Of Photography, The Blood Of Life

Perfect Bag for Bogen Compact Lightstand or Ticket To Your Funeral?

Symbolism - a tool for taking better photographs

Any readers (not you, molemen!) out there have a favorite post from Nice Photo Mag? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. The head shot of the guy who does voice overs (light on mouth, face in shadow) was one of the most creative ideas I’ve seen this year.

  2. Thanks!
