Idea Idea – Inanimate Object Photo

Here’s a new idea for a series of articles here on Nice. It’s called: “Idea Idea”. Sounds catchy to me.

I find a lot of people ask me where do I get my ideas. I can only answer that they just find their way to me. That’s how it seems, but in reality, sometimes I have to go out looking for them. There are lots of ways to get the juices flowing. You can give yourself specific assignments or take very abstract approaches at growing your mind muscle. I’ll try and mix it up as time goes on.

Without further ado… here is the first Idea Idea – The Inanimate Object Photo

This one won’t require you to schedule any models, hire any assistants, or visit any mildew packed prop houses. Take any object that is not, nor has ever been alive and try to make the viewer connect with it on an emotional level. Personify it. Think of what emotion you want the viewer to feel when they look at the object. Then plan out a shot with your object that will make them feel it. Don’t just go out looking for an object that makes you feel something. Take an object that doesn’t make you feel anything and make it make you feel.

Maybe it will work. Maybe it won’t. The goal here is to squeeze your brain and wake it up. If you get a great work of art out of it when your done – double bonus!

If you give it a shot and want to share, let us know in the comments below.

Nice.
