Permission Granted

It took just over six weeks but we officially got permission from the U.S. Department of Defense to shoot photography and video for the documentary trip over in Okinawa. And just in time, too. If it came a week later, it would have been too late. I don’t know how much of a doc it would have been if I wasn’t allowed to shoot anything on the military bases since that’s the point of the trip. I understand why they are strict about these sorts of things and am relieved we shouldn’t run into any problems. If we do we’ll have two folks from the USO who will (as they said in the email) “Help facilitate this and to ensure everything runs smoothly.”

I won’t be able to post any pictures from on the base right away, though as we are required to deliver copies of all the footage – one for the USO and one for DoD to review. Once the footage is approved by all parties, they’ll let us know what can be distributed to media, posted online, etc. I don’t know how long this process takes. Of course, in the mean time I’ll have some Nice HD video and stills to share with you all from the trip that aren’t taken on the bases.

In the meantime here’s a photo of from my last trip overseas. Any guesses where it was taken?

Later this week I’ll post the obligatory gear packing shot. I love those!

Nice!

  1. Location of the sign: on the trail?

  2. The word is “Allowed”. Aloud is what you do when you read a story to your kids. Allowed means you were, you know, allowed to do something.

  3. Iam, sorry, I don’t understand the question.

Craig, thanks for the heads up. I definitely type faster than I can spell.
